Nightmare when we get to our Nairobi flight to Zanzibar. Firstly we thought we were flying Kenya Airways, but apparently we were flying Precision Air instead and it turned out that these guys were anything but precise. Firstly because of the naffing, bollocking, hissing shield thingy - we now had a bag too many. Meaning a payment of 25 bucks to get it on board. That was fine but after a lot of haw humming, they decided payment needed to be done outside. This entailed going back through a security check, making the payment and then coming back through the scanners yet again. It's an understatement to say the security in Africa is tight. Your bags are scanned even before you check in, as well as after you check in and then yet again before you board your flight. After that cockamamie process - and boarding our flight a good half hour late, we are left slowly broiling on the plane for another half hour before all being offloaded again, sent to do a slow turn around the tarmac on a shabby old bus and then loaded back on. It turned out that a thoughtful passenger - no doubt also concerned about the precision of Precision had tried to ensure the exit door was properly locked - not only did they unlock it but they ended up removing the fecking thing altogether. Precision spent ages thinking about the consequences of either letting the flight run even later, or losing a few passengers as we took off. In the end the door was roughly wedged in, the seat belt, around the closest passenger tightened to breathless and we took off precisely 2 hours late.
