This initially looks horrific and certainly was to us too initially. But our Tanzanian guide told us that what we have to remember is that the more people that come to Africa - the safer the animals are. In areas where there are few people - the quiet allows poachers to roam unchecked and it's in these areas that the animals are in danger of extinction. You can totally see in the crater that the animals are king, they see the trucks just as other large unthreatening animals that do them no harm.
