We visited a primary school today and fell totally in love. The kids were utterly enchanting.
So open, friendly and welcoming. The curriculum means they are taught exclusively in English ensuring that almost all of them are mostly bilingual by the time they're 8 years old. However...There were no pens, no pencils, no paints, no reading books, no rubbers, no pencil sharpeners, no scissors, no glue, no pencil cases, no school bags, no laptops, no sports equipment of any kind and certainly no toys. When we asked did they get fed during the day the teacher said that they did if they had the funds to do so, but that funds were often 'held up'. The school day is 7.30am until 4.30pm. Our heart strings were well and truly pulled.
Watch this space.
